My beautiful girl Ella passed away yesterday. She had a seizure on Sunday and was rushed to the emergency vet where she had to stay overnight on oxygen. With a lot of praying she was able to come home the next day but was told her heart was failing and it was a very poor prognosis. We were able to have her two more days but with no improvement and no eating we sent her back to the vet where they did blood tests. He said it was bad news and her kidneys were giving up. It was time to say goodbye to my best friend I’ve had for 12 years. The pain was almost unbearable and I’m going through heartache, regrets and just finding it hard that I will never see her again. She was my baby, my everything. How do you move on from such grief. Life is so unfair sometimes. She didn’t deserve this at all.

    Hi @Leearna,

I am sorry I missed this message before, I’ve been away for a few days – your Ella sounds amazing, I can feel some of the pain and shock you must be feeling. It’s perfectly natural to feel such deep heartache when we lose a loved one, especially when they’ve been with us so long and been so loyal and loving (no matter how many legs they have). I think it’s natural too to feel that life isn’t fair, our dogs are so wonderful to us and they don’t deserve such an end.

It’s really important to understand that you aren’t alone, both in your grief and in your heartache. The forum community is here to help, and there are some great resources here at Griefline too – for example this page helps in providing some guidance and advice on how to start coping with this immense loss: https://griefline.org.au/resources/losing-a-pet/

I hope you find it helps, and please keep coming back.

    Dearest Leearna,

I’m also so sorry to read about the death of Ella. She clearly meant the world to you. It is such a shock to loose our loved ones so quickly – our sweet furbabies give so much of themselves to us right? I hope you come back and share with us some of your favourite memories of Ella when you are ready..we would love to share in those.

I really hope you are looking after yourself.

    BIGGEST Digital hug.

    Sunflower xx
