The Griefline helpline is a free service and provides telephone support nationwide, 7 days a week.

Our phone support sessions are secure and confidential and available to adults aged 18 years and over.

Our goal is to ensure that you feel welcomed, connected and accepted through your experience of grief and loss. We suspend judgment to recognise and accept your suffering and unique grief experience.

You have the option to:

  1. Call our helpline on 1300 845 745 between the hours of 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week (AEST/AEDT), or

Frequently asked questions

Griefline’s skilled and compassionate telephone support volunteers are trained to listen and hold space for you no matter where you are in your grief experience, or what you are grieving for.

Our volunteers are specially trained in supporting grief and loss. During the call you may choose to share your grief story, openly express your emotions, learn coping strategies or get help to find more resources to help support you.

Helpline calls are for around 20 minutes.

Yes, we encourage individuals to utilise our services whenever needed to navigate their grief journey effectively. However, to ensure fair access for all users and to maintain the quality of support, we have instituted an ‘overuse of service’ clause. This clause defines ‘overuse’ as seven or more interactions with our services within a one-week period. For more information, click here to access the Griefline Services Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Talking about your grief and allowing your emotions to be expressed can be tiring. Limiting support call bookings to 20 mins helps to conserve your energy and that of our volunteers.

You can call again at another time or request a callback if you are looking for further grief support.

If you are a resident of NSW, you are able to access free counselling sessions through the Integrating Grief Program, funded by the NSW Ministry of Health.

The helpline is staffed entirely by volunteers who have all been trained to support people experiencing grief and loss.
