Introducing Abi Catchlove
Abi Catchlove
Grief counsellor, ecological grief expert, workshop facilitator.
PACFA clinically registered; senior grief counsellor and private practitioner for individuals and couples.
Having previously volunteered for the Griefline helpline, and after working in a range of counselling roles with a relational focus, Abi was compelled to work in the grief space as she believes grief can act as a medicine; an expansive offering towards healing.
With a personal interest in environmental activism, Abi was drawn to explore the experience of ecological grief and how this intersects with other experiences of loss in acknowledgement of our innate connection, belonging and identities within nature. She has since completed Climate Aware Practitioner training (PSC) and is exploring how to offer this niche space in her private practice.
Abi’s professional development provides insight into ecological grief; what it is, who is most affected, how it’s experienced and how best to approach these conversations. Drawing on her background in education, Abi’s facilitation of group work and training events is led by curiosity and informed by incorporating engaging content with stimulating discussion to provide meaningful learning and understanding.
Abi has shared her knowledge as a guest on the SBS Living Loss podcast, on local radio for bereaved communities, and facilitated various webinars for counselling practitioners and other professional industries. She has a deep curiosity and reverence for ritualising grief and how this practice can move us towards compassion for our selves and others in sorrow. Abi is joyfully informed by many wise souls close and far who offer wisdom and depth in navigating grief, and therefore, love; ‘where there is sorrow, there is holy ground’ (Oscar Wilde).
