Take the next step toward healing with professional guidance

Grieving can feel overwhelming, and the right support can make an enormous difference in how you navigate your loss. While Griefline provides free peer-based support through our Helpline and Online Forums, some people may wish to seek ongoing professional counselling for deeper, personalised care.

Finding the right counsellor is a very personal journey. A registered grief counsellor or therapist offers a safe, compassionate, and confidential space to express your emotions, make sense of your experience, and develop healthy ways to move forward. These professionals are trained to understand the complexities of grief  including the emotional, physical, and social changes it can bring.

Professional grief counselling can help you:

  • Manage ongoing sadness, guilt, or anxiety after a loss

  • Support children, partners, and families through bereavement

  • Address the impact of sudden or traumatic loss

  • Navigate milestones, anniversaries, or changes that may reawaken grief

  • Rebuild a sense of purpose and connection in daily life

While grief is a natural response to loss, it can sometimes become prolonged or complicated. In those moments, working with a qualified counsellor can help you find perspective, stability, and gentle encouragement to heal at your own pace.

Before booking, check that your counsellor is registered and experienced in grief and bereavement therapy. Reputable professional bodies such as the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) provide directories of verified practitioners across Australia.

If you’re ready to connect with a qualified mental health professional who specialises in grief and loss, the directories below can help you find a counsellor or therapist in your area.
