The Griefline Online Forums are a platform for human interaction, created to bring support, hope and a sense of community to those Australians affected by grief, loss and trauma. The Forums are open to all adult Australians, whether in cities, rural or regional areas, with a focus on community, connection and peer-group support.
The Griefline Online Forums Community Rules have been developed to ensure the Forums remain a safe, supportive and productive space for every member. We rely on our members to read, understand and abide by these rules and help keep our discussion forums a welcoming and safe place to freely exchange views and information.
Online Forums Values
The Griefline Online Forums values should remain central to all discussions on our Forums and should guide you in shaping your contributions.
By giving and receiving support and encouragement we nurture each other to grow stronger out of challenges and hardships. The Forums should always provide a safe space for open dialogue where members feel free to divulge painful experiences, discuss difficult topics and share experiences of growth and wellness. Through acceptance, a non-judgmental stance, patience and curiosity we can support and nurture each other’s well-being.
We aim to be empathetic at all times, to put ourselves in each other’s shoes, and try to understand or feel what each other is going through. We respect each individual’s unique experience and perception of grief, loss and trauma and their individual response to it.
Our Forums should always be a friendly place for interaction. Posts should be kind, helpful and respectful. If you are new feel free to introduce yourself. Established members are encouraged to welcome newcomers, share tips and show them how to use the Forums.
Safety is paramount in this friendly space. Please remember that the forums are public. Never post personal information that you wouldn’t share with a stranger nor divulge any identifying information including your (or anyone else’s) address, email address or phone number. Your username should consist of a first name or pseudonym only.
The Forums are a platform for peer-support. By sharing your considered knowledge and experience you could be helping someone in need. Evidence shows that helping others can also benefit our own mental health and wellbeing. When you give information please provide your sources.
Considered contributors stay on topic, however, if the conversation steers off course feel free to start a new thread, making sure you provide a clear topic title and post it in the appropriate category.
Each contributor should have only one account. Running multiple identities on our Forums is prohibited. Contact the online community coordinator if you are unable to access your account.
Discussions, threads and topics should remain engaging and thought-provoking. Healthy and respectful debates are welcomed. However, if you see an abusive, triggering or unacceptable post please alert the moderator.
To eliminate the risk of harm to Forum users we may edit, delete or choose not to publish any post, avatar or username that:
- contains disrespectful or derogatory remarks about any other member
- contains advice or content that we believe is damaging, unhelpful or distressing to others
- contains swearing or offensive language is nonsensical and/or irrelevant
- promotes personal beliefs in a way that is disrespectful of the choices of others
- infringes the privacy of individuals or service providers
- is racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit or suggestive, abusive or otherwise discriminatory or objectionable
- advertises products, services, events or research
- makes any reference to specific prescription medication names and/or dosages or seeks medical advice
- includes personal information such as images clearly displaying your face, full names, phone numbers, locations, postal or email addresses; or encourages the sharing of such details
- puts overt pressure on other members to respond, including ‘goodbye’ messages
- makes attempt to facilitate personal offline contact with other members
- describes or encourages violence, suicide or other activity which could endanger the safety or wellbeing of others
- contains methods or detail of suicide, self-harm or sexual abuse
- is a copy of another post or contains the same, or similar, message posted multiple times elsewhere
- contains references to edits or moderation
- is made from duplicate accounts.
Griefline moderators may intervene when Community Rules are broken however due to the large volume of posts, not all material can be monitored immediately. Therefore, we entrust our Forums community with the responsibility of maintaining a safe and respectful environment that adheres to our core values and does not include inappropriate content.
If any material you post raises concerns about your safety or the safety of others, we may try to contact you to make sure that you or others are safe. We may also need to pass your contact details on to authorities who can help protect your safety or the safety of others (for example, to the police or a mental health crisis service).
If you are concerned that another member’s post breaches the rules herein please report the post to the moderators by clicking on ‘report post’ (this terminology needs to be set down).
Our moderators reserve the right to edit, delete or amend any post that sits outside the community rules. Further, we may make direct contact with any member who has posted inappropriate content and reserve the right to delete the accounts of users who breach our community rules.
Should you wish to query a moderation decision, please contact the online community coordinator for a response within three business (3) days. You will be advised by email if we are unable to publish your post, or if a post has to be edited or removed from the forums because it breaches our community rules.
Threads from those who are no longer on the forums may be archived at the discretion of the moderators. We reserve the right to permanently deactivate the accounts of users who breach our community rules.
Our Forums are for the use of people residing in Australia only.
Cancelling your membership
You may cancel your membership at any time. By doing so, you understand and agree that we may retain your personal information for up to six months from the date of your request and that all activity associated with your account that was generated prior to the date of your cancellation request will remain permanently on the Website (for example, your posts in the forums will not be deleted).
