I’m so very sorry to hear about your cat. It sounds like you were really close and that they were super special to you. Loss of a beloved cat and the beautiful bond you had is so very painful. Adjusting to the loss of the comfort of purrs and snuggles, companionship and play, and daily stuff can seem overwhelming at times. While people who haven’t been there don’t get it, for those of us who have suffered that pain it’s like losing a close friend or family member. It’s ok to grieve and feel really sad. Loss is hard and it takes real courage to open up and share the pain and sadness you are feeling.
When you feel up to it, perhaps you can think about a way to honour your cat and the wonderful times you had together. For some people that really helps. I have a special folder in my phone with photos of my Fitz that I like to look at because it brings back good memories and feelings when I’m really missing him or feeling sad. Do you have special photo memories or objects that you might use to help you keep close to your cat and honour their memory?
For now please just look after yourself and take the time you need to grieve. Keep reaching out to the forum for connection and support or call us on 1300 845 745 (8am–8pm AEST, 7 days) if you need to talk.
