On the International Day of Friendship, we celebrate togetherness, by forming connection and bonds.

While we all experience loss and grief, the emotional and physical pain when we lose something or someone we love will be felt differently from person to person, and often from loss to loss.

Next Tuesday 3rd August, Sane Australia will be holding space in their forums to discuss the grief and loss their community members have felt in their lives.

Griefline's Community and Partnerships Coordinator Amanda Peppard will be present to answer questions, share coping strategies and discuss what can be done to support a loved one who might be experiencing grief.

Loneliness is more common than you think. Did you know that one in four Australian adults report feeling lonely?

This week we are reaching out to municipalities throughout Victoria to partner with us to help reduce loneliness in the community. Supported by @bendigocb_murrumbeena and @vichealth this program aims to connect with those who are experiencing loneliness and isolation.

Griefline’s free Care-to-Call service provides a compassionate person who will reach out once a week for a friendly check-in call to those who register for the program.

Our specially trained support volunteers will discuss ways to start a conversation and connect with the community, or just be a friendly voice on the line, someone to talk to without shame or fear of judgement.

Losing someone to suicide is a devastating, heartbreaking and painful experience. In recognition of this and to support those bereaved, our friends at @switchboard_victoria are launching LGBTIQA+ Support after Suicide bereavement groups.

LGBTIQA+ Support After Suicide bereavement groups are a free program for LGBTIQA+ people who have been bereaved through suicide. Switchboard are running this peer-led program in partnership with Support After Suicide, Australia at Jesuit Social Services to create a safe and specialised service that supports LGBTIQA+ suicide loss survivors on their healing journey through grief.

If you are interested in attending a LGBTIQA+ suicide bereavement support group, please email bereavement@switchboard.org.au or leave a voice message at 0484 088 647

Please note these groups operate twice a year with the next group commencing on Tuesday 10th August.
