Thank you for sharing- I see your loss and sadness. Your beautiful bunny has been your best friend over the past seven years. She provided you unconditional love and warmth and you loved her so much. It must have been devastating to have to make the decision to put her down. You are not alone, for many, the loss of a pet can mirror the grief experienced when we lose a close friend or family member.

Try to spend time with your cat, and shower it with affection, as it will also be feeling the loss and will need time to adjust. Studies show that pets can and do mourn the loss of their fellow pets.

To assist, here are some tips that may help with your loss… You could perhaps find a way to pay homage or honour your bunny’s role in your life. This can be by planting a tree, a plaque in a pet cemetery, or a photo or piece of jewellery that holds some significance. Also, connect with those who understand your loss. Many communities have pet bereavement support groups so check with your local council.

Social support is important at times of grief and loss, and its great you reached out to this forum. You can also call Griefline, if you ever feel like chatting to someone about your loss and associated feelings. Take care.
