From Afghanistan to Nauru to Australia

It’s not easy for refugees adjusting to a new life in Australia according to Mohammad Ali Baqiri who fled Afghanistan as a ten year old unaccompanied minor in 2001.

After spending nearly three years in the Nauru Detention Centre, Mohammad came to Australia where a new set of challenges awaited.

The loss of a companion animal is often a silent emotional sorrow that can be met with a lack of understanding and sympathy from others.
The grief experienced can be equal to that of losing a family member, with the loss leaving an empty space where unconditional love, companionship and connection once existed.
However you are not alone in your grief. In fact pet bereavement is a common presentation with callers to our Helpline. We have also developed an online forum dedicated to people experiencing pet bereavement.

You can learn more about our pet bereavement support resources and forums on the Griefline website.
Click the link in our bio, scroll down to the I Am Experiencing section on our homepage and click on the pink MORE button under Losing a Pet.

Australia’s health system can vaccinate against a pandemic, medicate against mental health issues and operate to repair injury… but when it comes to the death of a loved one there is no way to fix it. At Griefline we understand the desperation, confusion and hopelessness the finality of death can bring to loved ones.

That’s how we’ve been helping Australians cope with bereavement for 32 years. Through empathy, compassion and guidance our Helpline volunteers have eased people’s suffering, given them clarity and brought hope.

And with the recent launch of our Online Forums and Resource Hub we’re able to reach more Australians than ever… to provide connection with a supportive community, educate about grief, inform on ways to cope, and most of all be there when nothing else can be done.

To connect to the Griefline online forums go to griefline.org.au/forums/ or visit the Resource Hub at griefline.org.au/resources/

Griefline now hosts moderated online forums, a peer-to-peer space dedicated to Australian's experiencing grief and loss, something that has touched most of us in some way.

As we build our community, we invite you to share your story. Whether it's the passing of a loved one, the breakdown of a relationship, loss of a treasured pet, loss of life as you knew it before COVID or perhaps loneliness and isolation…we all have a tale to tell.

In telling our stories, we help heal ourselves as we come to understand and process the loss.

So too, you can help to heal others who identify with parts of your painful experience and feel less alone. Or perhaps learn from your recovery and move towards growth.

To be part of the growth of our forums community, post your story to www.griefline.org.au/forums/

If you're estranged from family...it might be reassuring to know there are many others like you...because not all family bonds are unconditionally loving...so treasure the close relationships you do have and reach out for support from people who understand estrangement distress.
