While COVID forced us apart, in some ways it brought us together.

With a shared experience of isolation, many of us turned to online groups as a useful tool for reducing loneliness.
Like the 45,000 people who joined the $85 Jumbuck Mini Spit Society Facebook page. A poster child for the benefits of social media, an online space to share and learn, with spit-roasting hacks and banter, where cooking up a seriously good feed strengthens relationships and forges new social connections.

“It has gotten me through these tough lockdowns...”
- Magic Meat, Member of the $85 Jumbuck Mini Spit Society

And then there's the hundreds of people who joined the Griefline Online Forums. Tapping into a space that has proven benefits for those experiencing loss...

"I think it’s comforting to know you’re not alone in your experience of grief even if the people on here are ‘virtual’”
- Griefline Online Forums Member

Today, this unlikely duo is teaming up to continue their efforts to reduce loneliness and isolation in the community.

You can find out more about the ‘society’ on the Griefline Resource Hub

And check out their new merchandise range with proceeds going to Griefline’s latest programs designed to support those experiencing grief, loss, loneliness and isolation.

Announcing Griefline's partnership with the $85 Jumbuck Mini-Spit Society

Griefline supports Australian's in their grief by providing space to be heard without judgement or labels. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, most of us were forced into lockdown and the sense of isolation saw demand on Griefline's services grow exponentially. Many callers shared that they were experiencing a sense of grief as a result of loneliness and loss of connection with community.

At the same time the $85 Jumbuck Mini-Spit Society was taking off, starting as a modest Facebook community sharing meat-lovers recipes, jokes and stories, within weeks 20,000 followers had signed up. Without even knowing it, they were all helping each other through loneliness and isolation and preventing mental health issues from arising.

Today the society marks the launch of their new website and merchandise range which is sure to be a winner with the 45,000 current society members.

Not content to celebrate with a good meal and some mates, the society has pledged to continue their work in spreading mateship, supporting good mental health, and helping those struggling with grief and loss by teaming up with Griefline.

That’s why the $85 Jumbuck Mini-Spit Society has pledged to donate proceeds from their new range of merchandise. All contributions made to Griefline by the society will be funnelled into the development of resources to help people experiencing grief, loss, isolation and loneliness. The programs and initiatives include an online moderated 'loneliness and isolation' forum, meditations and podcasts, articles and information all designed to educate and inform about the psychological effects of loneliness and how to reduce it.

The Mini-Spit society is the epitome of community and connection. It shows us that we can still feel connected with each other, even while being physically separated.
