GriefLine was established through the Outreach Department of Bethlehem Hospital . in 1987 with  a grant from Community Services Victoria.

The principal aims of GriefLine are threefold, to:

1. Provide a 15 hour  support telephone service free of charge to people who are experiencing grief as a consequence of a significant loss in their lives

2. Train and supervise volunteers who are then professionally supported

3. Assist through the Loss & Grief Education Course other professionals who have to deal with grief-related stress in the lives of others.
